PM Narendra Modi assassination plot: Varavara Rao arrested

The Maharashtra Police arrested Virasam founder and  Maoist ideologue Varavara Rao from his Gandhinagar residence on Tuesday  for his alleged involvement in a plot to assassinate Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi. According to the latest update, a team of Police from Pune arrested the revolutionary writer Varavara Rao  after searching his house and the houses of his family members and friends including a journalist.

He  was shifted to the government-run Gandhi Hospital for a medical check-up and he is likely to be produced before a court here before shifting him to Pune.

The searches started at 6 a.m at multiple locations in what is believed to be part of an investigation into the alleged plot to assassinate prime minister Narendra Modi. The Pune police have, however, told  Varavara Rao that he is being arrested in connection with Bhima Koregaon case. The arrest of Varavara Rao comes as a part of the ongoing raids as part of an investigation into the alleged plot to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In the month of June 2018, it had come to light that left-wing extremists were plotting to kill PM Narendra Modi during one of his roadshows. This was also revealed from a letter seized from one suspected Maoist.  Police recovered a letter mentioning a plan to assassinate prime Minister Narendra Modi. Five persons were arrested in this connection. On the otherside, Varvara Rao had strongly denied the allegations. He had said that all five arrested in the case were working for the betterment of downtrodden.

Same raids are also going on at residences of Varvara Rao’s daughters – Anala and Pavana, who are married to a journalist Kurmanath and a central university professor Satyanarayana respectively. Meanwhile the Telangana Praja Front (TPF), condemned the unwarranted simultaneous searches and arrest of Varavara Rao.
