Mani Ratnam‘s masterpiece Ponniyin Selvan is the most anticipated film of 2022. Now, the film is scheduled for its theatrical release on September 30. Meanwhile, the makers have begun its promotional activities and the film has been touching high bars in terms of expectations.
During the film’s teaser launch event held in Chennai yesterday, the leading light of the movie, Karthi said that Ponniyin Selvan is a nice presentation to the young generation from the wise director Mani Ratnam. He prolonged his speech saying, “We learn more about how we were subjugated by foreigners in our school. Yet, we keep calling ourselves Tamilians! If someone ask us what makes us great, many of us wouldn’t know what to answer. We wouldn’t know how our kings were. And how our kingdoms and their administrations were. But it is important that we learn all of these.’
He also gave a perfect examples saying, “For example Cholas. The Kallanai dam, which they built almost 2,000 years ago, is still unmutilated even to this day. There are many examples like this, and even foreigners would only navigate on the sides of a water body. It was the Tamilians who learnt about the existence of undercurrents and used it to travel across seas.”
Karthi concluded his words saying, “Presenting it in the form of a movie is a gift that Mani sir is presenting to the upcoming generation. You cannot create history without learning it. The young generation is going to watch this movie and will learn definitely. When you watch the movie, you will be prevail over by a sense of pride. And when you feel pride, you deserves to store it. When you strive to store it, you continue it. I thank Mani sir for this wonderful presentation.”
Ponniyin Selvan is a Tamil language period action drama written and directed by Mani Ratnam. The film has two parts, and now, the first is ready for theatrical release. It is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novel Ponniyin Selvan. The film has a huge cast that features Karthi, Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sobhita Dhulipala, R.Sarath Kumar, Aishwarya Lakshmi, Trisha, Jayaram, Vikram Prabhu and R.Pratibhan.
