Rajinikanth: PM Modi made Tamils proud

It is known that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new Parliament building in Delhi today. As part of this program, a golden scepter will also be unveiled near the speaker’s chair in Parliament.

This scepter was a testament to the transfer of power between the British rulers and India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. This scepter is called ‘Sengol’. It is a Tamil word. This scepter tradition comes from the time of Chola kings.

In this context, South film superstar Rajinikanth responded. This scepter is said to be the traditional symbol of Tamil power. He said that from now on the lights will be switched on in the new building of the Parliament of India. On this occasion, Rajinikanth said that he is sincerely thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making Tamilians proud. To this extent he tweeted in Tamil that reads: The traditional symbol of Tamil power – the scepter – will shine in India’s new Parliament building. My sincere thanks to the honorable Bharat Pratham @narendramodi who made Tamilians proud.

Prime Minister Modi said: Tamil Nadu has played a significant role in the freedom struggle of India. This state – Tamil Nadu has given great leaders and  it has been a centre of Indian nationalism. But it’s unfortunate that despite this all, contributions of  the Tamilians were not fully recognized.
