Kollywood superstar Rajinikanth is honored with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

Rajinikanth received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award from the Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu, during the 67th National film awards and Dadasaheb Phalke Awards 2019 held in New Delhi today morning.

Rajinikanth dedicated the honor to his mentor and late film director K Balanchander.  Rajini was bestowed with the Indian cinema’s highest honor for an artiste, for the year 2019.

Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu called Rajinikanth “one of the great sons of this great country”.

Darbar and Petta fame Rajinikanth, born as Shivaji Rao Gaekwad on 12th December, 1950, to Ramoji Rao and Jijabai, worked as a bus conductor in Karnataka before embarking on his film journey. During his school days, he was so interested in acting that he took part in the plays and then signed up for an acting course at Madras Film Institute.  Rajinikanth made his debut in K Balachander’ Apoorva Ragangal. He initially played character roles and he also went on to work with versatile actor Kamal Haasan in several movies. In the late 70s, he quit acting but later he made his comeback with Billa, which was a remake of Amitabh Bachchan starrer Don. After Billa, his career took a turn and made him the top star of  Tamil Film Industry.

On the otherside, Rajinikanth will be seen playing the lead role in family and action drama Annaatthe.
