Ram Gopal Varma aka RGV has joined the hands with filmmaker Madhu Mantena for a web-series “D Company”. According to Ram Gopal Varma, only a web series can do the justice to the kind of material he has collected over 20 years.
Ram Gopal Varma wrote on his twitter, “I have been collecting data since nearly 20 years actually from even before I made SATYA and COMPANY ..Only a web series like D COMPANY can do justice to the kind of Material I have with me.”
RGV again wrote, “Me and Madhu Mantena team up for a web series ‘D Company’, a chronicle of the Mumbai underworld.” “Starting from rise of Dawood Ibrahim in early 1980’s and initiation of ‘D Company’ — story will be till end of the tremendous gang wars that started post 93 blasts.”
In 2002, Ram Gopal Varma made a movie Company, starring Mohanlal, Ajay Devgn, Vivek Oberoi, Manisha Koirala, and Antara Mali, which was based on the Indian Mafia organisation ‘D Company’, said to be run by Dawood Ibrahim.
The shoot of this upcoming web series will be started very soon and the filmmaker will also announce the cast in coming days. The makers have decided to call all the characters in the web series by their real name like Dawood, Abu Salem, Chhota Rajan, and Chhota Shakeel.
Earlier Ram Gopal Varma and Madhu Mantena, have worked together for Rann and Rakta Charitra. Now once again they have teamed up for web series ‘D Company’. According to Ram Gopal Varma, the web series will not be only a biopic of Dawood Ibrahim but that of the entire D Company from its initiation to its growth as the most dreaded organisation in the entire criminal history of India. The web series D COMPANY will showcase the rise of Dawood Ibrahim from being just a small time hoodlum to how he shifted to Dubai.
