Popularly known as the Missile Man of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam served as the 11th President of India from 2002-2007. While giving a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management, Abdul Kalam passed away on July 27 in 2015 at the age of 83.

His massive contributions to the field of defence and space research development aeronautics led him to acquire the powerful title, The Missile Man of India.  He was born on October 15 in Rameswaram, Tamilnadu. 

He accomplished physics and aerospace engineering and worked as a scientist and science administrator at the Defence Research and Development Organisation for 4 decades. He often credited for developing India’s civilian space programme and military missile systems. 

He was elected as the President in 2002. He served for the complete 5-year term and was extensively referred to as ‘People’s President’. He was honoured with the highest civilian honor-Bharat Ratna and he continued to work for the welfare of society till his last breath. He made sure to meet the youth of the country through visits and lectures in colleges.

His philosophy of simple living and high thinking has inspired millions of people across various countries. He might not be physically present around us but his inspiring thoughts and quotes will always be immortal among the people of India.
