India clinched 3 nominations for the upcoming 95th edition of the Academy Awards, including for ‘Naatu Naatu’ from SS Rajamouli’s blockbuster ‘RRR‘ for best original song. The Telugu hit dance track was the first Indian song to win a Golden Globe earlier this month. Twitter has come under fire from Variance Films, the distributor behind SS Rajamouli’ magnum opus RRR starring Young Tiger Jr NTR and Mega Power Star Ram Charan.
Variance Films, in USA, criticized Twitter for not allowing Telugu as an approved language for marketing on the platform. The company claims that its “For Your Consideration” ads for RRR and its Oscar-nominated song “Naatu Naatu” have been blocked.
Variance Films took to Twitter to complain that it could not post clips of Naatu Naatu because the song is not performed in approved language.
Variance Films tagged Elon Musk and wrote: Hey @[email protected] we’d like to advertise our Academy Award nominated film RRR But Telugu, spoken by over 81 million people, isn’t an “approved language” for ads, so you’ve blocked us from advertising entirely for trying to promote a subtitled clip? Is that correct?
Variance Films is facing difficulties with its “For Your Consideration” campaign due to the technical issues and criticism of Twitter’s algorithm.
Hey @TwitterSupport @elonmusk– we’d like to advertise our Academy Award nominated film RRR
But Telugu, spoken by over 81 million people, isn’t an “approved language” for ads, so you’ve blocked us from advertising entirely for trying to promote a subtitled clip?
Is that correct?
