Samantha Akkineni who has acted in number of woman centric movies in her filmy career, is all set to play the titular role in an upcoming film Shaakuntalam, which will be helmed by Gunasekhar of Rudhramadevi fame. According to the latest update, Samantha will join the sets of Shaakuntalam from 20th March in Hyderabad and will start the shoot.
The reports are coming that Samantha is receiving huge remuneration for this historical movie Shaakuntalam, based on Kalidasa’s eponymous work. The announcement regarding Shaakuntalam was made on 1st January on the occasion of new year by the director who unveiled the motion poster of the film and termed the narrative as ‘mythology for millennials’. According to Gunasekhar, Shakuntalam will be a pan-Indian film and it will have the music by Mani Sharma.
Gunasekhar’s previous film was the period drama Rudhramadevi in which Anushka Shetty played the titular role and the movie was decent hit at the box office.. The director Gunasekhar had also announced a movie Hiranyakashipu starring Baahubali fame Rana Daggubati, that has now been put on hold.
Meanwhile, Samantha will be seen playing a negative role in upcoming web series The Family Man 2. She is also the part of Vignesh Shivan’ directorial venture that has Nayantara and Vijay Sethupathi.
