ED- The Enforcement Directorate has arrested Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut in a money laundering case that is linked to alleged irregularities in the redevelopment of a Mumbai chawl. MP Raut was arrested at midnight after over 6hours of questioning at the ED’s zonal office in south Mumbai’s Ballard Estate.
The sources say that The Enforcement Directorate- ED is likely to seek ten days custody of Sanjay Raut in the Patra Chawl land scam case.
The Enforcement Directorate officials had searched Sanjay Raut’s Mumbai home for the most part of Sunday after he refused to appear for questioning despite being summoned twice. Raut will be produced before the court today.
Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha, mother and MLA brother Sunil Raut were at home during the search. Suni Raut said that Sanjay Raut has been arrested. BJP is afraid of Sanjay and got him arrested.
The Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that the only crime Sanjay Raut has committed that he has not been cowered down by politics of intimidation of the BJP- Bharatiya Janatha party. He is a man of conviction and courage, and are with Sanjay Raut.”
Independent MLA Ravi Rana said, “MP Raut is involved in corruption and he should return the money of the poor people.”
Shiv Sena has planned protests across Mumbai over Sanjay Raut’ arrest.
