On Friday, the senior Congress leader Gulam Nabi Azad has issued a statement resigning from all positions in the party. The party is facing multiple number of shocks and it is known that many leaders have resigned in recent times. 

He had also mentioned the reason behind his resignation. He said that the sidelining of senior leaders and the increasing sway of a coterie of inexperienced sycophants. He sent the letter to the Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Azad, who has repeatedly criticized the party’s policies and internal affairs and he criticized Rahul Gandhi’s behaviour recently.

He further said that the party was ruined after Rahul becoming the vice president. He also said that there is currently no consultation process in the party.

Azad’s letter reads, “One of the most glaring examples of this immaturity was the tearing up of a government ordinance in the full glare of the media by Rahul Gandhi… This childish behaviour completely subverted the authority of the prime minister and government of India. This one single action more than anything else contributed significantly to the defeat of the UPA government in 2014.”

Gulam Nabi Azad worked in several positions as a prominent leader in the Congress party. He served in various capacities as chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and Union Minister.
