People in our country who are aware of Hindu Mythology do not need to be told the story of Shakuntala. In short, Menaka is sent to earth by Indra to prevent Vishvamitra’s sin. Menaka breaks her penance and becomes pregnant in the process. She leaves the child on earth and goes to heaven. Shakuntala became an orphan soon after birth. Later Gandharva’s married husband says he doesn’t remember who she is, so she becomes an orphan once again while she is pregnant. Gunasekhar directed the movie ‘Shaakuntalam’ with the story of Shakuntala and Dushyant.
The movie was released on 14th April. Two or three days before that, the premiere shows were held. After the release the movie Shaakuntalam received the negative response. Now the movie is in OTT.
Shaakuntalam released on 11th May on Amazon Prime Video OTT. The movie is available in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam languages since May 10 i.e. yesterday midnight.
Produced by Gunasekhar’s daughter Neelima Guna and presented by popular producer Dil Raju. While Samantha played the titular role, Malayalam actor Dev Mohan played the role of Dusyant. The visual effects in the movie ‘Sakunthalam’ have received severe criticism. Many commented that Gunasekhar failed in telling the love story beautifully. Let’s see what kind of reaction will come from the OTT audience.
