Sharwanand and Samantha Akkineni are working together for an upcoming project 96 remake. The entire shoot of the film has been wrapped up but to date the makers did not start the promotional activities. Earlier it was heard that Dil Raju who was very impressed with the story of Tamil blockbuster film 96, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha, brought the Telugu remakes rights. After buying the rights of the film, Dil Raju waited for a long time to select the suitable pair and finally zeroed in on Sharwanand and Samantha Akkineni. But now Dil Raju is very silent and there is no news regarding 96 remake and makers are not speaking a word it. The sources say that Sharwanand is the reason behind it.
Sharwanand was last seen in gangster drama ‘Ranarangam’ in which he shared the screen space with Kalyani Priyadarshan and Kajal Aggarwal. Though Sharwanand promoted the film aggressively, the movie ended up as a failure, which made this talented actor to be silent over his next film.
As the makers of 96 remake have decided to release the movie in the month of February, Sharwanand has decided not to make noise till then. It has also come out that the director of Sharwanand starrer upcoming projects is also working on the script very carefully and trying to avoid all the sorts of shortcomings.

Govind Vasantha, who had composed music for the original, has been retained for the Telugu version as well.
96 was also remade in Kannada with Bhavana and Ganesh playing the lead roles. The Kannada remake was titled 99.
