Gunasekhar recently officially confirmed that Samantha Akkineni will play the title role of Shakuntala in Telugu mythological drama Shakuntalam, based on Kalidasa’s eponymous work. The announcement regarding the inclusion of Samantha in Shakuntalam was made on 1st January by the director who unveiled the motion poster of this big budget film. Shakuntalam will be a pan Indian film which will have the music by Mani Sharma. On the other side, everyone is eager to know that who will play the role of King Dushyant in Samantha starrer Shakuntalam.
Apparently, the film maker Gunasekhar is planning to rope in either a Malayalam or Tamil hero with a pan Indian appeal to play the main lead. An official announcement regarding the inclusion of Pan Indian hero will be out soon.
Shakuntalam will narrate the story of Shakuntala, daughter of Menaka and Vishwamitra.
Gunasekhar’ previous offering was the period drama Rudhramadevi starring Baahubali fame Anushka Shetty in the lead role. The director had also announced another mythological drama Hiranyakashipu starring Rana Daggubati, which has now been put on hold.
Meanwhile, Samantha will be seen in her first web series — The Family Man 2, which will stream in February on Amazon Prime Video. She is also playing the crucial role in Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kaadhal.
