The senior Telugu Desam Party leader and former MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar, who is considered to be an Aaku rowdy by his rival groups, has been arrested by the Andhra Pradesh police on Wednesday.

Chintamaneni Prabhakar was booked for the abusing and assaulting a Dalit who was carrying sand at Pinakamidi village in State’s West Godavari district on 31st August.

Chintamaneni Prabhakar is known for his casteist attitude and he has an ugly track record for beating even women officers. The former MLA was absconding ever since he was booked under the SC and ST Atrocities Act for assaulting Cheruku Joseph at Pinakamidi village while Joseph was transporting sand in his bullock cart.

Chintamaneni Prabhakar sent a message to the Andhra Pradesh police and requested them to surrender in front of district Superintendent of Police, on Wednesday morning. However the police arrested the former MLA  as soon as he reached his home to see his ailing wife.

When the police arrested Chintamaneni Prabhakar, his followers and TDP Worker raised slogans against the police and the YSR Congress government.

He is facing more than 50 criminal cases. He was also in the news headlines when he allegedly assaulted a  lady tehsildar D Vanajakshi of Musunuru block for allegedly obstructing illegal sand mining in the West.
