The 30-year-old woman was gang-raped in her house and later she was burnt alive in a temple by 5 male members (Aram Singh, Mahaveer, Charan Singh, Gullu and Bhona) of her family in Pathakpur village of Rajpura area, Sambhal district, UP (Uttar Pradesh). The barbaric act took place around 2 am on Saturday when the woman was at her home with her 10-year-old daughter.
According to the latest reports, the 5 men barged into her home when her husband was not present at home. The woman’s husband works as a labourer in Ghaziabad, UP. Firstly they gang raped her and left the place. Later the woman informed her cousin after her rape and asked for help. She also revealed the name of five men. An audio clip of her call is now with the police. Before her cousin could come to her rescue, the 5 men came back again at her home, they dragged her to a nearby temple where they burnt her alive in the havan kund.
It has also come out that the woman had also called the police control room for help but her call remained unanswered.
Arun Kumar, the Station House Officer of Rajpura, said, “The hut, where the woman was burnt alive in temple, was used to perform ‘havan’. When some villagers came to know about the woman that she was being taken to temple, they reached there but none of them dared to stop the accused from setting the woman on fire.
An FIR has been registered against the 5 men under sections 376 D (gang-rape), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), 302 (murder), 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapons), among others, of the Indian Penal Code. All the five men are absconding.
Meanwhile, the woman’s maternal family members have alleged that her brother-in-law and his cousins molested her.
