Story: Vikram starts where Lokesh Kanagaraj’ Kaithi left off. 2 containers full of drugs went missing in Chennai, and local gangs have to retrieve it at any cost before the crime lord and the leader of the drug mafia Rolex  (Suriya) makes everybody pay. A  group of masked men are on a killing spree,   they takes the lives of some high ranked officers, including a young official Prapanchan  (Kalidas Jayaram). On the otherside Police chief Jose (Chemban Vinod Jose) brings in a black ops team headed by Amar (Fahadh Faasil),  for the investigation, who starts digging into Karnan (Kamal Haasan)’ life who is  the father of a martyred official Prapanchan. The chief suspect is Sandhanam (Vijay Sethupathi), a fearsome and ruthless drug peddler. How do the paths of Amar, Karnan and Sandhanam cross each other and what happens next, form the rest of the story.

 Plus points:

  • Interval block
  • Suriya dialogue
  • Kaithi references
  • Vijay Sethupathi introduction
  • Kamal Haasan action sequence
  • Fahadh Faasil role
  • Climax
  • Cinematography

 Minus Points:

  • Lack of emotional connect
  • Runtime

Performance: As usual, Kamal Haasan is brilliant in this film. He just excels in whatever he does and he brings so much realism into his performances. Fahadh Faasil gets the meatiest part among the ensemble cast and he is  terrific. Vijay Sethupathi shines in peculiar roles that are best suited for his personality. Suriya’s brief but powerful cameo is highlighted. Narain, as Bejoy, the honest cop from the movie  Kaithi, is also given the short shrift. Rest of the cast of Vikram perform accordingly.

Technical: The story of Vikram is interesting. Anirudh Ravichander’s music, especially the background score, plays an important role in amplifying the overall experience of watching  the movie on the big screen, apart from the terrific action sequences.  The cinematography, editing, art direction and action choreography are up to the mark.

Ananlysis:  Overall Vikram is an action drama with thriller elements.
