Plus Points:

· Vijay’ performance
· Social message – Women empowerment
· Songs
· Direction

Minus Points:

· Routine story
· Run Time
· Love track

Performance: Whistle belongs to Vijay and he totally steals the show with his performance skills, mass dialogue delivery, screen presence, and racy moves. There can be no doubt that Whistle is a story written for actor Vijay. Each frame, dialogue, action, and reaction celebrates the actor Vijay, and what he does best. In both the roles- gangster and football coach, Vijay gives a top-notch performance. Nayantara looks beautiful on the screen. But the love track between Nayantara and Vijay is very dull. Varsha and Rebba Monica bring in Whistle the emotional quotient. Varsha plays the role of a woman who sacrifices her football dream for her husband whereas Rebba plays an acid attack survivor. Robo Shankar’s daughter Indraja gets an important role. Indhuja and Amritha Iyer are ok. Kathir in a small role shines. Jackie Shroff shines in the role of villain.

Technical: The first half of Whistle is slow whereas the second half is very predictable. The film has an old and routine storyline. Whistle carries social messages and deals with women empowerment. AR Rahman’s music and BGM is a big advantage to the film. Cinematography by GK Vishnu is top-notch and Editing is ok. The choreography of songs is colorful. Atlee’s direction is impressive. The screenplay is good. The dialogues are impressive.

Analysis: Whistle is a paisa vasool mass, sports action entertainer. For Whistle Vijay has given his heart and soul. In the first half, he shines and excels in the second half. The scene where Vijay motivates the young football team is pure class. All of this combined with Atlee’s talent to tell a story high on emotion has made Whistle just what Vijay’s fans ordered.
