Petta movie Review: The much awaited movie Petta starring Rajinikanth and Trisha Krishnan, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, has finally hit the theaters today on 10th January 2019 on the eve of Pongal. Petta is produced by Sun Pictures and also features Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Simran and Vijay Sethupathi in key roles. Let’s see the storyline of Petta.
Story: Petta (Rajinikanth) hails from Uttar Pradesh and is being chased by Simhachalam (Nawazuddin Siddiqui). He hides his identity and as Kaali, he takes charge as a hostel warden to control the ragging issue. After a couple of murder attempts on in the hostel the real name ‘Petta’ is revealed. What happens next? Who is Petta? Who is Simhachalam? To get these answers, one should watch the movie on Silver screen.
Plus Points:
- Rajinikanth’s performance
- Climax
- Twist and turns
Minus Points:
- Story
- Screenplay
- Editing
Performance: One again Rajinikanth has proved his performance skill. His fantastic performance in Petta is one of the reasons which make the audience sit throughout the film. Nawazuddin Siddiqui made his Tamil debut with Petta but he got limited screen space. His character could have been stronger. Vijay Sethupathi did superb job. He did exactly what was expected of his character. Trisha Krishnan and Simran didn’t have impacting roles as expected. The chemistry between Rajinikanth and Simran is pleasant.
Technical: There is nothing special in the storyline of Petta, which is one of the biggest drawbacks. The cinematography is good and is in tune with the concept of the film. The music by Anirudh Ravichander is decent but his background score is very impressive. The dialogues are noteworthy. The production values of Sun Pictures are good. Coming to the director Karthik Subbaraj, he has done a good job and especially with Rajinikanth’s character. But he chose a simple story line to impress the movie lovers and he became fail. The editing should have been crispier here.
Analysis: Petta is a complete mass entertainer with twists and turns. Petta is a special movie for the movie lovers for two main reasons- one is presence of Rajinikanth and the other is director Karthik Subbaraj. The director Karthik Subbaraj is popular for his unique, entertaining films. Rajinkanth’s swag and Karthik Subbaraj’s direction makes this film an entertaining watch.
