Chandramukhi : 1st Trangender to contest in Telangana ElectionsChandramukhi, who is a transwoman, has filed her nomination papers from Goshamahal constituency from the Bahujan Left Front (BLF) to contest in the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections.

Nobody may say Muvvala Chandramukhi would win but, 32-year old is the first transgender politician, who got into the battle ground with courage to face stalwarts from the powerful mainstream parties and with the confidence to win. She was accompanied by a few Comrades of the BLF (Bahujana Left Front).

Chandramukhi, who filed her nominations Monday is pitted against former minister and senior Congress leader Mukesh Goud and the controversial BJP leader T Raja Singh in Goshamahal constituency in Hyderabad Old City to the Telangana Assembly. She is contesting on a CPM-led Bahujan Left Front or BLF ticket from Goshamahal constituency.

Chandramukhi is the new name Rajesh Muvvala took after undergoing s*x change about 10 years ago. She has no property to declare in the affidavit to the election commission. She said, “I declared Rs 48,000 bank balance. I will spend only this much for my campaign”. According to the latest update, Chandramukhi will carry out her campaign by foot.

Chandramukhi said, “No party came forward to give a transgender a ticket to contest the polls. But, BLF (Bahujan Left Front) gave me the ticket and I filed my nominations.” She added, “Nowadays, power is enjoyed only by a few sections. I want to change that. I chose Gosha Mahal because majority of the voters here belong to Marvari community, which has respect for the transgender persons. I hope they will give me the votes. Many fellow transgender persons, who stay in this area, will campaign for me.”

Chandramukhi  further said, “If elected, I will focus on the problem of the child labour, which is prevalent in the constituency, and also ensure that the  housing scheme for poor people is properly implemented.”

Chandramukhi added, “I am contesting with this belief that every legislative body should have transgender representation. There is no Mahabharat without Sikhandi.”

Hyderabad has 2,700 odd transgender voters.
