It is worrying that many people have suffered heart attacks while performing Garba dance as part of Navratri celebrations in Gujarat. The loss of 10 lives in the last 24 hours is disturbing. It is worrisome that the victims are young and middle-aged. A 13-year-old boy from Dabhoi in Baroda was also among the dead, leaving everyone in awe.
Similar cases have been registered in the state for the past few days. A 24-year-old youth from Ahmedabad suddenly collapsed while playing Garba and passed away. A 17-year-old boy from Kapadwanj also died in the same way. In the first 6 days of Navratri, 108 ambulance services received a total of 521 calls related to heart related problems. Officials explained that 609 calls related to shortness of breath were received between 6 pm and 2 am, the time of Garba celebrations.
As the situation is alarming, the medical officials suggest that the event organizers along with the government should take action. The government has responded to this extent. The government has asked all government hospitals and community health centers near Garba celebrations to be on high alert.
