16 people, including four Indians, lost their lives in a fire in a residential building in Dubai. 9 others were seriously injured. The sources revealed that the accident occurred at 12.35 pm on Saturday in the Al Rus area of Dubai.
The fire that broke out on the fourth floor of the building gradually spread to the rest of the floors. After receiving the information, the Dubai Civil Defense Headquarters personnel reached the spot and evacuated the residents. A couple from Kerala and two from Tamil Nadu were among the four Indians who died in the incident, local media said citing officials. They all seem to be working in the same building.
Also, three Pakistanis and a Nigerian woman are said to be present. A spokesman for the Dubai Civil Defense said that the initial investigation revealed that the mishap occurred due to the failure of the construction company to follow proper safety measures. A case has been registered and investigation has been started.
A social worker from Kerala, named Naseer Vatanappally, helped identify the victims. Naseer said, “4 Indians, including a couple from Kerala and two men from Tamil Nadu who worked at building, three Pakistani cousins and one Nigerian woman.”
