Bollywood actor Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao announced their divorce in a joint statement on Saturday. The couple said that they will ‘nurture and raise’ their son Azad Rao Khan together.
The statement reads, “In these fifteen years together we have shared a lifetime of experiences, joy and laughter, and our relationship has only grown in respect , trust and the love. Now we would like to start a new chapter in our lives – no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and the family for each other.”
They shocked their fans by announcing their divorce after 15 years of being married. Earlier during an interview with a Chinese news channel, Aamir Khan had talked about how he found love in Kiran Rao after splitting from his first wife, Reena Dutta. They got married on 28th December, 2005.
During the making of Lagaan, first time, Aamir Khan met Kiran Rao, who was an assistant director on the film. Mr Perfectionist had said, “But at that time, we did not have any relationship, we were not even great friends. She was one of the people on the unit. It was after my separation and the divorce after some time that I met her again.”
