AP High Court stays construction of roads in farmers flats in Amaravati

The High Court found it wrong for the AP government to construct roads in the flats of farmers who had given land for the construction of the capital. It was ordered to consider the argument of the farmers that it is not appropriate to construct roads unilaterally without the consent of the farmers.

Then government allotted residential plots to the farmers who handed over land to the government for the construction of Amaravati. Recently, there was a controversy over the construction of roads by the state government in those flats. They approached the High Court alleging that road works were being carried out unilaterally in the plots of Rajdhani farmers.

The High Court found it wrong that the authorities of CRDA and Mangalagiri-Tadepalli Municipal Corporation were taking up road construction works in residential plots belonging to farmers who were allotted land in land acquisition for Amaravati.

The court ordered to stop work on Nidamarru-Betapudi road immediately. She questioned the officials as to how they could take up road construction in their plots without giving notice to the farmers and without their permission.

It has been clarified that if the construction of roads is to be taken up, notice should be given to the farmers and their attitude should be known. It has concluded that CRDA rules have to be followed to acquire land.

High Court judge Justice S. Subbareddy gave the order on Monday. On behalf of Anaparthi Sunitha, her father Upputhuri Shivanageswara Rao filed a lunch motion in the High Court on Monday, alleging that a 960 sq. yard residential plot was allotted in Nidamarru village of Mangalagiri mandal of Guntur district for giving land for the capital Amaravati, and the authorities are unilaterally constructing a road on that land.

The petitioner requested the authorities to direct the authorities not to take up road construction in their plot. Advocate VV Lakshminarayana, speaking on behalf of the petitioner, complained to the court that the authorities had taken up the Ullanghistu road works against the provisions of the Capital Amaravati Master Plan.
