ED- Enforcement Directorate officials were attacked in Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. The incident took place when the ED officials were going on raids regarding the allegations of ration distribution scam. ED team was attacked as it started a raid at Trinamool leader Shah Jahan Sheikh’ residence in connection with a ration distribution scam. The attack was carried out by more than 200 locals who surrounded the ED officials and armed forces. The injured ED officials were shifted to the hospital.
The sources say that officials and the central armed paramilitary forces were surrounded by more than 200 locals. 2 officials of the agency sustained injuries in the incident. The mob also vandalised the vehicles they came in.
The locals who attacked the officers also attacked and destroyed the vehicles they were traveling in. TMC leader Shah Jahan Sheikh arrested by the police.
Speaking on this incident, West Bengal BJP Chief Sukanta Majumdar expressed anger that this incident speaks volumes about the state’s law and order situation due to the Rohingyas. Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari was furious over the incident. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose have been asked to take action on this. The attack on the ED officials was demanded to be investigated by the National Investigation Agency.
