With BO Collections over Rs 12,000 Cr, 2023 emerged as best-year ever at India box office, Bollywood makes comeback
Bollywood- Hindi film Industry is back, and how! 2023 has proved to be an exceptionally wonderful year for Bollywood as the box office collections for the first time surpassed the Rs 12,000 crore mark. With gross box office of Rs 12,226 Crore, 2023 emerged as the best-year ever at the India box office, surpassing the previous record of Rs 10,948 Crore in 2019
Hindi film industry’s resurgence is attributed to the fact that there have been four movies that hit a domestic box-office collection of over Rs 500 crore, including Bollywood Badshah Shah Rukh Khan starrer Jawan, Pathaan, Sunny Deol starrer blockbuster drama Gadar 2, and Ranbir Kapoor’ action and thriller drama Animal.
2023 was the highest grossing year ever in terms of box office collections for the Indian film industry. Hindi movies raked in 41 % of the money in 2023 between January and November; the collections saw an increase of 7 % over the same period last year.
2023 also witnessed Yash and Sanjay Dutt starrer helmed by Prashanth Neel’ KGF Chapter 2 being the only movie that entered the Rs 500 crore club, while many Hindi language films struggled to even cross the Rs 300 crore mark. This included Alia Bhatt starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (Rs 217 cr), Brahmastra (Rs 273 cr), Gangubai Kathiawadi (Rs 152 cr), Drishyam 2 (Rs 285 cr), and The Kashmir Files (Rs 292 cr).
