On Friday, the Union health ministry announced that Covid precaution dose, which is also known as the booster dose, will be available to the 18+ population starting from 10th April, at private vaccination centres.
The Covid booster doses will now be available for everyone above the age of 18 at private hospitals. The center released a statement that read, “It has been decided that precaution dose of COVID-19 vaccines will be made available to 18+ population group at private hospitals. The administration of Precaution Dose to 18+ population through Private Vaccination Centres would start from 10th April 2022. All those who are more than 18 years of age and have completed 9 months after the administration of second dose, would be eligible for this Precaution Dose. This facility would be available in all the Private Vaccination Centres.”
Our country India had started the administration of precaution doses for everyone 60+ years of age on 16th March. Earlier booster dose was allowed only for FLWs, HCWs, and 60+ years of age with comorbidities issues.
Covid precaution dose is the third dose of the same vaccine that one has been administered against the SARS-CoV-2 infection. The necessity of the third dose was felt worldwide with the emergence of newer variants of the corona virus, while immunity produced by two doses of vaccine wanes gradually.
