The celebrities often enjoy a decent fan base that loves their favorite stars selflessly. celebrities have crores of fans. That’s why many companies choose the celebrities to promote their products. However, the Center has issued new guidelines regarding celebrities in India.
Celebrities and social media influencers will now have to elaborate on why they are appearing in the commercials so that consumers can understand. They have to use the product themselves and share their results and experiences.
Central Department of Consumer Affairs feels that most of the advertisements made by celebrities and social media influencers are against the interests of the consumers. Moreover, the consumer affairs department found that the items mentioned in the advertisement of the respective products were not seen when they were used.
Now it has been clarified in the latest guidelines that celebrities/social media influencers should promote any product only after using it and the results and experiences of using that product should be clearly explained in advertisement. It is stated that the explanation should be in the form of texts, audio and video.
The centre explained that if celebrities or the social media influencers have entered into an agreement with said company or have a partnership that should also be clearly communicated to the users in ad/advertisement.
