Leading FMCG company Dabur is embroiled in controversies. Cases have been filed in US and Canadian courts claiming that Dabur hair care products cause cancer. Dabur India has released a statement that cases have been registered against three subsidiaries of Dabur Company, Namaste Laboratories LLC, Dermoviva Skin Essentials Inc and Dabur International.

It is the allegation of the petitioners that Dabur hair products are causing ovarian cancer and uterine cancer. Dabur sells hair relaxer and hair straightener products over the counter (without requiring a doctor’s prescription) under various names. 5,400 cases were filed under multi-district litigation. Multidistrict litigation is a specialized legal process. Petitions can be filed in this way to enable speedy hearing.
