The film Karnan starring Dhanush, helmedby Mari Selvaraj, was among the last big releases in cinema halls, before theatres shut down due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The movie Karnan was released in theatres on 9th April and received the positive response by the movie lovers and critics alike. Despite the fresh lockdown restrictions, including a 50 % on occupancy, the makers were firm on giving the film a theatrical release before going to the OTT. In this action drama Dhanush was seen as a rebel who refuses to let his caste define his worth. Dhanush starrer Karnan that released in theatres initially is now streaming on Prime video.
In the wake of the coronavirus/Covid-19 pandemic, many Tamil film makers skipped the theatrical release of the film and they directly released their movies on OTT platform.
Dhanush starrer Karnan also has Yogi Babu, Natarajan Subramaniam, Rajisha Vijayan, Azhagam Perumal, Gouri G Kishan, Lal and Lakshmi Priya Chandramouli in the supporting roles. The movie was bankrolled by Kalaipuli S Thanu under the banner of V Creations whereas the music is scored by Santosh Narayanan.
On the work front, currently Dhanush has a number of projects in his kitty- Atrangi Re, Untitled Karthick Naren film and The Grey Man, which are in the different production stages.
