An Over-the-top (OTT) media service is a media service that offers an abundance of entertainment to the audience through the internet directly. These offer access to film and television content, along with existing series acquired from other producers, and original content produced specifically for the service.

Coming to the topic, currently there is a huge competition between a couple of OTT platforms like Disney+Hotstar and Netflix. Both the platforms consist of millions of subscribers worldwide. But among them Disney+Hotstar remain as the top OTT platform, with 221.1 million paid subscribers.

Whereas, Netflix has 220.7 million subscribers and it stands in second place. So, finally Disney+Hotstar has defeated the international OTT giant Netflix and emerged as the no.1 platform in the OTT arena. As Disney+Hotstar contains a merger of Hotstar, ESPM and HULU, Disney+Hotstar has 152 million subscribers and others are contributed by HULU and ESPN.

Disney+Hotstar’s shares are raised by 6.9%, while the subscriptions of Netflix have declined. Certainly, there are two major advantages for Disney+Hotstar, viz., affordable subscription prices, availability of Bigg Boss and IPL, which are the most popular shows, liked by the maximum number of audience. And, the major backlog for Netflix is its expensive subscription plans.
