Film producer Jayashree Devi gets six-month prisonKannada film producer Jayashree Devi has been sentenced to six months in prison on Wednesday. The producer jailed after a city court convicted her in a cheque bounce case. In 2005, S Anand, the owner of Ashwini Pictures and a distributor had filed a complaint against Jayashree regarding a cheque that had bounced.

According to the police report, Jayasridevi had taken the loan during the production of a movie ‘Habba’ 12 years ago.

Jayashree had borrowed Rs17.40 lakh from S Anand. She had given a cheque to Anand to return the money, but the cheque bounced. She went missing later. About two weeks ago, the court had issued an arrest warrant after she failed to appear for a hearing. She was arrested on Wednesday by Chamarajpet police and has been remanded to six months in prison.

She has bankrolled several movies like Sri Manjunatha, Habba, Mukunda Murari, Sri Renuka Devi, Gadibidi Krishna.
