After having more and more discussions, Telugu film producers have decided to halt shooting Tollywood movies from August 1st till further discussion and solutions to resolve issues. They have taken this decision to rationalise the industry as production costs have increased while theatrical revenues have declined badly.

They have also released a press note on social media that reads, “Post-pandemic with the changing revenue situations and increasing costs, it has become important for producers to discuss all the issues we are facing as a community of filmmakers. It is our responsibility to better our ecosystem and ensure that we are releasing our films in a healthy environment. In this regard, all producer members of the Guild have voluntarily decided to withhold shootings from August 1st 2022 to sit in discussions until we find workable resolutions.”

All the producers have unanimously decided to release new movies on the OTT platforms, only after 10 weeks of their theatrical release, in order to curb revenue loss. The producers council also said that there shouldn’t be any hikes in ticket prices hereon, considering the fact that people are not attending theatres to watch movies and they are accustomed to OTTs.

They said that the ticket prices should be convenient for common people and have decreased the prices from Rs 100 to Rs 70 in general theatres. Whereas in multiplexes, the price is reduced from Rs 150 to Rs 120, inclusive of GST. Other details will be announced in the coming weeks.
