The reports are coming  that at least nine maintenance personnel of Telangana Genco are trapped inside the plant. Six of them were rescued and they are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Srisailam. Initial reports indicate that a short circuit led to the fire and thick smoke engulfing the spot.  The Firefighters are at the spot and carrying out the rescue operation. Officials said  that the thick smoke which has been billowing due to the fire is hampering rescue operations.

Telangana minister Jagadish Reddy and TS Genco CMD Prabhakar Rao reached the site to oversee the rescue efforts. According to the minister, the mishap occurred in the first unit of the power station leading to damage of the four panels.  The minister also confirmed that it was very difficult for the  officials of the fire brigade  to carry out the rescue mission due to the thick smoke.
