Ali Bhatt is now coming up with a women centric film Gangubai Kathiawadi, which is helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Few days ago, the makers of Gangubai Kathiawadi released the trailer that grabbed the attention of not only the movie lovers but also the celebrities. The country has been eagerly waiting to watch Alia Bhatt’s badass avatar in the film on 25th February. However, Gangubai’s family – her purported adopted son Babu Raoji Shah and her granddaughter Bharti are not happy about the Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi.
Babu Raoji Shah says, “My mother has been turned into a prostitute. People are now saying the inexplicable things about my mother.” Gangubai’ son Babu Raoji Shah had filed a petition against the film Gangubai Kathiawadi in 2021. A Mumbai court had even summoned Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Alia Bhatt in the case. The case is still pending.
Gangubai’s family lawyer, Narendra is saying after watching the trailer, “The way Gangubai was portrayed in the movie is wrong and baseless. It is vulgar. You are representing a social activist as a prostitute. The film makers have made her Gangubai a vamp and lady don.”
The movie Gangubai Kathiawadi is based on a brothel madam from the red light area, Kamathipura in Mumbai. She is one of the most remembered women from the history of Mumbai. Gangubai is believed to have been pushed into prostitution at a very young age and she become the most influential pimp, having served several renowned criminals from the city.
