Hamas has a new submarine drone weapon in its arsenal, a torpedo. Hamas released its al-Assef guided ‘Torpedo’ video on Tuesday amid the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian war in Gaza. Hamas claims that this new submarine drone weapon will be used in Israel’s war. These underwater drones will attack enemy vehicles.
Hamas said the drones would be fired at Israeli targets. A torpedo consists of a compressed gas cylinder with a metal casing. Four Hamas divers from the al-Qassam Brigades carried the new weapon into the water. This weapon was used during a Hamas-led attack on Israel from Gaza on October 7, 2023.
It was revealed that Hamas had attempted to attack Israeli naval assets with the same weapon. Iran and North Korea have developed similar weapons that combine the characteristics of torpedoes with underwater drones. FBI Director Christopher Wray has accused Iran of plotting to assassinate US officials.
He warned that the threat of terrorism would increase during the Senate hearing. The US has repeatedly accused Iran of fueling tensions in the Middle East.
