In this film Samantha played the titular role. Released with huge expectations, the film flopped at the box office. Mohan Babu, Prakash Raj, Gauthami, Kabir Bedi, Madhubala, Ananya Nagella and others played key roles in this film.
Recently, Madhubala reacted to the flop of this film Shaakuntalam and expressed deep grief. Madhubala said that the failure of the film hurt her. She said that they worked very hard to give a visual treat to the audience. There was no pressure on the actors and technicians during the shooting. The failure of this film, which was expected to be a huge success, was disappointing.
Madhubala added that how the films like Baahubali and RRR were huge successes. She added that he does not understand how those films became hits in that range.
