IPL 2020, which was scheduled to start from 29th March, has been suspended till 15th April to tackle the growing threat of coronavirus. BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India Board of Control for Cricket in India) has pushed back the start date of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 to 15th April amid growing coronavirus threat. The decision to postpone Indian Premier League – IPL 2020 comes after the Delhi government decided to ban the tournament as a precautionary measure.
The recently released press release said, “Board of Control for Cricket in India Board of Control for Cricket in India is concerned and sensitive about all its stakeholders, and public health, and it is taking all necessary steps to ensure that all people which are related to Indian Premier League (IPL) including fans have a safe cricketing experience.”
BCCI’ decision came a day before the scheduled meeting of Indian Premier League Governing Council in Mumbai. On Saturday, prior to the GC meet, BCCI office-bearers and GC members are also expected to meet the team owners and other stakeholders.
After this decision immediately it was informed that all foreign players in Indian Premier League -IPL would not be able to join till 15th April. BCCI is scheduled to meet the owners of IPL – Indian Premier League franchises before the start of IPL Governing Council meeting.
