The war between Israel and Hamas is still going on. Till now there has been huge loss of life and property in this war. Meanwhile Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel would consider a tactical short pause in the fighting to allow aid to reach Gaza or the evacuation of hostages, but he once again rejected calls for a general ceasefire despite growing international pressure. In a US television interview, Netanyahu said he believed Israel would need to assume security responsibility for the Palestinian territories for an indefinite period after the war.

Hamas says that while Gaza is under attack, it will not free the hostages nor stop the fighting. The health ministry in the Hamas-controlled area said at least 10,022 Palestinians have been killed so far, including 4,104 children. International organizations have said hospitals cannot treat the injured and food and clean water are running out and aid distribution is nowhere near sufficient. Washington is working hard to arrange a pause in the fighting to allow aid to enter. But like Israel, it has argued that Hamas would take advantage of a full ceasefire to regroup.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned on Monday that Gaza was becoming a “cemetery for children”, calling for an immediate ceasefire in the region.
