Kannada actor and director Upendra is facing criticism for saying “Oorendare Holageri Irutte (there will be a Dalit hamlet in every village)”, while interacting with fans.
Upendra is in hiding for fear of arrest, approached the Karnataka High Court. He requested the court to quash the FIRs registered against him and protect him from arrest. Upendra, who founded a political party named ‘Prajakiya’ recently spoke to his fans on Facebook Live on the occasion of six years. He said that there will be good and bad in the future, and everyone should strive to eliminate the bad by emphasizing the good. A Kannada proverb was quoted on this occasion. This caused controversy.
Dalit community leaders have filed cases against Kannada star Upendra. Fearing arrest, he went into hiding. The police have sent notices to attend the hearing in the case registered at Chennammakere Achukattu police station. On the other hand, Dalit communities in Bengaluru and Ramanagara districts continued their agitation against Upendra yesterday. Police provided security to Upendra’s residences in Sadashivanagara and Katrigupetta in the wake of the agitation.
On the other hand, social activist Naveen Gowda demanded the Board of Film Trade to ban Upendra for five years. Upendra’s petition is likely to be heard soon.
