Mir Barkat Ali Khan, popularly known as Prince Mukarram Jah Bahadur the eighth Nizam of Hyderabad, passed away in Istanbul, the capital of Turkey, on Saturday night. He was 89.
As per the desire of the Prince Mukarram Jah Bahadur of being laid to rest in his homeland India, his children are scheduled to travel to Hyderabad with his mortal remains on 17th January 2023.
Last Nizam of Hyderabad Mukarram Jah was born on 6th October, 1933, to Mir Himayat Ali Khan alias Azam Jah Bahadur, 1st son of Mir Osman Ali Khan, 7th Nizam of the princely state of Hyderabad before it was merged with Indian Union in September 1948.
Mukarram Jah Bahadur mother, princess Durru Shewar, was the daughter of the last Sultan of Turkey, Sultan Abdul Mejid II. Durru Shewar died at the beginning of the 2000s.
He was suffering ailments for some time and took his last breathe at 10.30 p.m. in Istanbul. Mukarram Jah Bahadur was 8th of the royal dynasty which came to power in 1724.
He was announced as Nizam VIII at the Chowmahalla Palace on April 6, 1967. He was chosen by grandfather Nizam Osman Ali Khan as his successor, bypassing his own sons in process.
