Versatile actor Kamal Haasan and director Mani Ratnam are reuniting for a film with the working title KH234. The pair previously teamed on gangster epic Nayakan which was released in 1987. The movie was a watershed in both their careers. It was a box office blockbuster, won Kamal Haasan best actor at India’s national film awards and was the country’s entry to the 1988 Oscars. Earlier, there was a strong buzz that Trisha or Nayanathara would play the female lead in Kamal Haasan starrer. However, the latest speculation among Tamil film circles is that Bollywood’s talented actress Vidya Balan has been roped in to play the female lead opposite Kamal Haasan in Mani Ratnam’ magnum opus. The official confirmation is awaited regarding Vidya Balan inclusion in Kamal Haasan film KH234.
The upcoming film will be jointly produced by Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI) and Ratnam’s Madras Talkies with Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies as a presenter on the project. Udhayanidhi Stalin is presenting the film under the Red Giant Films banner. Academy-winning music composer AR Rahman is scoring the music. The film will be released in 2024.
On the work front, Kamal Haasan is currently working for Indian 2 which is progressing at the brisk pace under the direction of Shankar.
