Nagpur doctors performed CPR on a person who had cardiac arrest for almost an hour due to a heart attack and survived. Then he was kept on ventilator in intensive care unit (ICU) for 45 days and tested. The man has fully recovered and reached home from the hospital on 13th of this month. The doctors said that they could not record the CPR details properly due to the condition of the patient and urgent treatment. Doctors of Kim’s King’s Way Hospital, Nagpur said that otherwise it would have remained a rare case in the medical record.

An IT employee (38) from Nagpur was admitted to the hospital in an unconscious state on August 25. His family members said that his eyes had fallen back many times for three to four days. A team of doctors led by Dr. Rishi Lohia performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the patient who was unconscious due to a heart attack. According to the instructions of the American Heart Association, if the heart does not start beating after 40 minutes of CPR, the patient is dead.

However, in this case, CPR was performed for 45 minutes, after which the heart started to respond slowly, Dr. Lohia said. Similarly, it is said that doing CPR for a long time and giving shocks can cause side effects such as broken ribs and skin burns due to shocks. In this case, no side effects occurred due to CPR being done with all precautions. Dr. Lohia explained that due to the patient’s health condition, he was kept on ventilator for 45 days and treated in the ICU. He said that he was sent home on 13th of this month after complete recovery.
