China is facing a rise in COVID-19 cases as chaos descended at several hospitals in the country due to increasing patient numbers. The medical resources in China’s capital city Beijing are facing additional stress. The current spike in COVID cases in China is believed to be caused by the BF.7 sub-variant of Omicron. On Wednesday our country India confirmed four cases of the Omicron subvariant BF.7.
This is not the first time that BF.7 has made news. In the month of October, it started to replace the variants that were then dominant in US and several European countries.
The first case of BF.7 in India was detected in October by Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre.

BF.7 is a sub-lineage of the previous Omicron variant BA.5 The new variant BF.7 presents symptoms similar to upper respiratory infection including fever, runny nose, sore throat, and cough
