Veteran actor Geeta Kapoor , who is known for her role in Pakeezah, written and directed by Kamal Amrohi, passed away on Saturday morning around 9 am at Mumbai’s SRV Hospital in Mumbai.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) member and producer Ashoke Pandit has confirmed this news as he wrote on the wall of Twitter, “Standing besides the dead body of Actress #GeetaKapoor 57 who was abandoned by her kids in #SRVHospital a year back breathed her last at a suburban Old age home today morning. We tried our best to keep her healthy but her wait for her Son&daughter made her weaker day by day. #RIP” [sic]”.
He further wrote, “Her body will be kept at Cooper Hospital Vileparle for two days hoping her Children to come and atleast do the last rites Otherwise We wl do our best to bid her a dignified good bye.. Thank U #DrTripathi SRV Hospital @MumbaiPolice #JivanAshaoldHome for being a great help. #RIP” [sic] “
Geeta Kapoor was admitted to SRV hospital after her son Raja abandoned her there. She was waiting for her children since last year in May 2017. When the actress was in the hospital, she said to a journalist, “My son used to beat me and gave the food once in four days, and sometimes, even locked herme for several days. As i was not ready to go to an old-age home, that’s why, he planned all this.” CBFC member Ashoke Pandit and filmmaker Rakesh Taurani stepped forward to pay the pending Hospital bills of Geeta Kapoor and later she was sent to an old age home.
Ashoke Pandit that Geeta Kapoor kept waiting for her children all of last year but no one came for her. He added, ” Last Sunday we had arranged a grand breakfast, Geeta Kapoor was okay too, but she was not happy from inside, as she wanted to see her children one last time. Her son, Raja, is a choreographer and daughter, Pooja, is a airhostess.
In Pakeezah, Geeta Kapoor played the role of Rajkumar’s second wife whereas Meena Kumari featured in the lead role.
