Pathaan Movie Review: Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham starrer spy thriller drama Pathaan has finally  hit the theaters today. Let’s see the story of Pathaan.

Story: Jim (John Abraham) plans an attack on India  but the motive is neither money nor power, but something personal. The only person who can stop this attack is Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) agent Pathaan (Shah Rukh Khan) .The story of film is a cat-and-mouse chase between Jim and Pathaan. What is  the motive of Jim ? How does Pathaan stop the attack? Who is Rubina(Deepika Padukone)?  To get these answers, one should  watch the movie Pathaan on silver screen.

 Plus Points:

·         Shah Rukh Khan performance

·         Deepika Padukone glamour

·         John Abraham presence

·         Cinematography

·         Patriotism

·         Songs

 Minus Points:

·         Chemistry between Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone

·         Weak story

Performance: Shah Rukh is the heart of Pathaan and he brings back mass to massala entertainment . Just like Hrithik Roshan did with War, Shah Rukh Khan carries the weak story of the film with his alluring aura.  But  his chemistry with  Deepika Padukone feels lackluster.  Deepika  Padukone in the character of Rubina  is another highlight of the film. She enters the story with the song ‘Besharam Rang’. She is not there just to add color to the film like Vaani Kapoor’s character in the film ‘War’. She is seen in her full glory till the end. Yash Raj Films’ film ‘Dhoom’ gave life to John Abraham’s career. This time too John is seen  in a similar role. Dimple Kapadia falls into the trope of half baked scriptwriting  and ends up doing something that has been done by many before. Ashutosh Rana does not get lot of importance. Salman Khan’s cameo is fine. Rest of the cast of Pathaan perform accordingly.

Technical:  The story of Pathaan is weak. The plot follows India’s revocation of article 370  and its impact on a Pakistani officer, who wants India to pay for this ‘mistake’. When director Siddharth Anand made the first action film ‘Bang Bang’ with Greek God of Bollywood Hrithik Roshan after making the first four films of Rumaniyat Ke Ehsaas Ki, then the audience of Hindi cinema got the first idea of his vision.  In this film the camera does not stick directly on the faces of the actors.  The cinematographer engages the audience with the surrounding environment. Be it the Besharam rang, the bike chase, freshwater lake or the action sequence shot on a train passing through the hills.  In the film of two hours 26 minutes, Siddharth Anand keeps the audience engaged till the end. Sanchit Balhara  and Ankit Balhara’s background score are superb. The editing is good.

Analysis: Pathaan is high on Action, Style, Swag, entertaining and engaging.  Don’t know whether director Siddharth Anand has seen ‘Dhoom’ or not because if he had seen, at least he would not have copied the last scene of the climax of ‘Dhoom’. There are a hundred other ways to kill the villain. But Siddharth Anand seems to have picked up whatever spice he could get to make this film a masala film.  As soon as the mention of Raktabeej comes, one remembers the name of fire in ‘Junglebook’, Raktaphool. The girls were seen dancing to Shah Rukh Khan’s songs in housefull shows. Whenever Shah Rukh Khan utters any patriotic dialogue, people whistle.
