C Shukkur, Malayalam actor and prominent lawyer from Kanhangad, and his wife Dr Sheena, former pro-VC of Mahatma Gandhi University, will remarry on 8th March — International Women’s Day — to ensure their daughters get their entire property.
The couple got married 29 years ago.. on 6 October 1994 according to Muslim Personal Law and has three daughters. In the absence of sons, according to this law, one-third of his property would belong to his brothers. In this context, it has been decided to celebrate the International Women’s Day today under the Special Marriage Act. According to Shukkur, the only way out of this predicament is to get married under SMA. During an interview, the actor and lawyer Shukkur said, “We just want to secure our daughters’ future.”
Shukkur is going to marry his wife again this morning at the sub-registrar’s office. According to this special marriage law, all his property goes to his daughters. He took this decision in this context.
In the western countries and among some Hindu castes, couples often renew their vows or get remarried to their spouses after a certain number of years together in marital life, but this couple will be taking special route to re-register their marriage due to the certain conditions imposed in the Muslim inheritance laws.
