Rangasthalam breaks 12 years old Pokiri Record

Rangasthalam breaks 12 years old Pokiri RecordRangasthalam starring Ram Charan and Samantha Akkineni, has broken 12 years old record of Superstar Mahesh Babu starrer Pokiri at the box office.

Mahesh Babu and Ileana D’Cruz starrer Pokiri, directed and produced by Puri Jagannadh, was released in 2006 and turned out blockbuster at the box office. Pokiri collected a distributor’s share of Rs 420 million. The film grossed Rs 660 million worldwide and remained the highest-grossing Telugu film for three years, until it was surpassed by Ram Charan starrer Magadheera in 2009. The film Pokiri was also one of the fourteen southern Indian films to be screened at the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) Film festival in 2006. Pokiri won four Nandi Awards and two Filmfare Awards.

Pokiri has set an RTC X Roads Single theatre record in Sudarshan 35 MM collecting Rs 1,61,43,091/- in 189 days run. Now Ram Charan and Samantha Akkineni starrer Rangasthalam, has broken this record in 89 days by 1st show collecting a Gross Rs 1,61,51,363/-  in Sudarshan 35MM.

 SS Rajamouli’s historic and war drama Baahubali 2: The Conclusion starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannah Bhatia, Nassar and Ramya Krishna,  which was biggest blockbuster of India, could not break Pokiri record but Ram Charan’s Rangasthalam crushed this record and created history.

 Rangasthalam, the village based drama is helmed by Sukumar and produced by Y. Naveen, Y. Ravi Sankar and C. V. Mohan under the banner Mythri Movie Makers. The music is scored by sensational music composer Devi Sri Prasad. Apart from the lead pair, Rangasthalam has other stars like Anansuya Bharadwaj, Aadhi Piniseety, Jagapathi Babu, Prakash Raj, Naresh, Rajeev Kanakala and others in supporting roles. Pooja Hegde shook her leg in item song Jigelu Rani.

 Ram Charan played the role of Chitti Babu alias Sound Engineer and Samantha Akkineni as Ramalakshmi in Rangasthalam.
