On 4th May, Telangana High Court, asked the state government to explain the rationale behind allotting 5 acres of land at a nominal price of Rs 5 lakh per acre to film director and producer N Shankar, who is known for films like ‘Bhadrachalam’ and ‘Jai Bolo Telangana’. The land is located at Mokila village, Shankarpally, Ranga Reddy district.
High Court demanded an explanation from the government on how they issued 5 acres of land worth Rs 5 Cr for just 5 lakhs.
The division Bench comprising Chief Justice Nyayamurthy, RS Chauhan and Justice B Vijaysen Reddy, A Abhishek Reddy also ordered the parties concerned to maintain a status quo in this land case. The director N Shankar did not appear before the court either in person or through his advocate despite serving a notice, the Bench warned that it will proceed ex-parte against the director if he does not appear before the court during the next hearing. High Court sent a reminder notice to the director to appear before the court and later adjourned the case for the 6 weeks.
The division Bench passed these orders while dealing with a Petition filed by J Shankar, a resident of Dharmapuri in Jagitiyal district.
