Samantha Ruth Prabhu starrer Shaakuntalam is going to be released on OTT less than a month after its release in theatres. The movie Shaakuntalam will be released on Amazon Prime on May 12. Keeping in mind the craze for Samantha in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi languages, it is reported that Amazon has acquired the OTT rights of the film for around 20 crores before its theatrical release.
It is known that the film will be released in Telugu, Hindi and other southern languages on 14th April with huge expectations and turned out to be a disaster. The story, graphics, production values and the acting of the lead characters were widely criticized.
Made with a budget of around Rs 60 crores, the film grossed less than 20 crores, leaving the producers and distributors with losses. Due to failure talk, it is known that this movie is going to be released in OTT within a month of its release in theatres.
Gunasekhar directed this movie based on Kalidasa’s Abhignana Shakuntalam. In this, Samantha played the role of Shakuntala and Dev Mohan appeared as Dusyant. Mohan Babu, Ananya Nagalla, Sachin Khedkar, Gautham and Madhubala played key roles. This movie was produced by Dil Raju along with Gunasekhar and his daughter Neelima Guna .
