Today (11 April), it will be 42 days of no new Tamil releases. It is due to the standoff between Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) and cinema theatres in Tamil Nadu over Virtual Print Fees (VPF). When the entire Tamil film Industry is on strike and there have been no new film released from 1st March, there is a theater in Kovai, which is cashing in on the situation.
The owners of the Shanmuga Theatre in Kovai, had come up with an intelligent idea to screen Shakeela’s soft porn movies from her hay days to fill his theater. He has been celebrating a weeklong screening of Shakeela’s old hit movies in Malayalam that have been dubbed in Tamil. The screening of Shakeela’s films has started from 6th April and will continue until 12th April. It’s like ‘Shakeela’s Film Festival’ . Shakeela’s X rated movies like Rasa Nila, Driving School and Ilaimai Idho Idho are running to a full house.
There are four shows every day and the walls around the theatre are plastered with posters of Shakeela who was once considered a threat to Malayalam superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty.
